Solvent Rubber Application Methods Guide

Product: Solvent Rubber


Type: Solvent-based, flexible rubber membrane
Purpose: Waterproofing and protective coating for various substrates
Application: Cold-applied with brush, roller, or spray

Metal Roofs

Preparation:
* Remove rust, dirt, and oil using pressure washer and/or brooms.
* Focus on loose debris, no need to grind off rust.
* Clean thoroughly and ensure surface is dry.
Application:
1. Optional primer (50:50 Solvent Rubber + lacquer thinners).
2. Apply first thin coat.
3. Reinforce joints with fibreglass mesh where needed.
4. Apply second coat after drying.
5. Never apply thick layers—use multiple thin coats.

Concrete Slabs (Flat Roofs)

Preparation:
* Clean loose debris.
* Acid wash if oily; rinse and dry completely.
Application:
1. Apply thin primer coat (50:50 mix).
2. Lay fibreglass sheeting or mesh for encapsulation.
1. Ensure fibreglass is fully saturated with Solvent Rubber.
3. Apply first coat over surface and mesh.
4. Apply second coat after drying.

Tiled Roofs

Preparation:
* High-pressure wash and repair loose tiles.
* Dry thoroughly.
Application:
1. Apply primer coat (50:50).
2. Use fibreglass mesh on joints and ridging where needed.
1. Ensure fibreglass is fully saturated with Solvent Rubber.
3. Apply first coat.
4. Apply second coat once dry.

Asbestos Roofs or Sheeting

Preparation:
* Wet surface to avoid dust.
* Gently wash and do not sand.
Application:
1. Apply primer coat (50:50).
2. Reinforce cracks with fibreglass.
1. Ensure fibreglass is fully saturated with Solvent Rubber.
3. Apply first coat.
4. Apply second coat after drying.

Steel Structures

Preparation:
* Remove rust and degrease with pressure washer.
* Dry surface well.
Application:
1. Apply primer coat (50:50)
2. Apply first coat with brush or spray.
3. Reinforce joins with fibreglass if needed.
4. Apply second coat.

Retainer Walls

Preparation:
* Remove loose material, dust, or paint.
* Check for moisture—surface must be dry.
Application:
1. Apply primer coat (50:50 with thinners).
2. Use fibreglass mesh for cracks or joints.
3. Apply first coat of Solvent Rubber.
4. Let dry and apply second coat.
5. Ensure full coverage from base to top edge.
Tip: Apply on the water-facing side and top of wall for best results.

Parapet Walls

Preparation:
* Remove flaky paint, dust, moss.
* Ensure cracks are repaired and surface dry.
Application:
1. Apply primer coat (50:50 with thinners).
2. Reinforce horizontal and vertical junctions with fibreglass mesh.
3. Apply first coat of Solvent Rubber.
4. Allow to dry, then apply second coat.
5. Ensure coating extends over wall edge and roof slab.

General Guidelines

* Do not apply thick layers. Thin coats dry faster and perform better.
* Drying time: 30–60 mins per coat.
* Full cure: 24–48 hours depending on climate.
* Application tools: Brush, roller, or airless spray.
* Clean tools: Use lacquer thinners
